WHAT TO EXPECT
To get the best results, patients should follow all instructions for Latisse carefully. After washing the hands and face so there is no dirt, makeup, or oils, the patient should apply Latisse to one of the sterile, single-use applicators provided. If applicable, patients should remove contact lenses before using Latisse and wait at least 15 minutes after the treatment to put the contacts back in. Latisse should be applied evenly to the upper eyelashes along the eyelid, being careful not to get any liquid into the eye. Latisse is not approved for the bottom eyelashes, so patients should avoid the lower eyelid to prevent reactions and side effects. Patients typically begin to see an improvement in the length and thickness of their lashes in about 3 – 4 weeks, but optimal results will be seen after 4 months.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
To maintain results, patients must continue to use Latisse on a daily basis. If applications are stopped, the lashes will gradually return to their natural condition. Latisse is a bimatoprost eye solution that mimics prostaglandin, a natural chemical in the body that controls cell growth and hormones. The most common side effects of Latisse are red or itchy eyes, but in rare cases, Latisse may cause a redness of darkening of the eyelids, eye irritation, or eye dryness. Patients should seek immediate medical attention if they are concerned about eye trauma.
