ABOUT JUVÉDERM

Juvéderm XC is performed in our Virden MD practice next door. The main active ingredient in Juvéderm is called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is an ideal dermal filler because it occurs naturally in mammals and is known to hold up to 1,000 times its volume in water. Juvéderm XC is a volumizing dermal injection that fills wrinkles by adding volume to the skin. Juvéderm Ultra XC is used to enhance the volume of the lips, creating fuller lips or a more symmetrical lip appearance. BEST CANDIDATES
The best candidates for Juvéderm should:
- Have moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles
- Have parentheses lines around their nose and mouth
- Want increased lip volume and/or symmetry
- Want subtle, long-lasting results
- Want to avoid facial surgery
WHAT TO EXPECT
Before performing the Juvéderm treatment, the patient’s face and skin will be evaluated to determine the best injection sites and the amount of Juvéderm needed. After the patient’s face is cleaned, the chosen Juvéderm formula will be injected into the face until the patient’s goals are met. All Juvéderm formulas include lidocaine ( a mild local anesthetic), so treatments should be comfortable and painless for the patient. After the injection, the gel may be lightly massaged to spread the treatment to all needed areas and ensure an even distribution.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Patients are able to leave and resume normal activities after their Juvéderm treatment, but strenuous activity should be avoided for at least one day. The injected areas may be slightly swollen or red for 1 – 2 days after the treatment, but results should be visible right away. The results of Juvéderm treatments last up to 6 – 9 months and can be maintained with touch-up treatments.
