BEST CANDIDATES
Ideal candidates for Voluma will have:
- Decreased skin elasticity from smoking, stress, or genetics
- Have gaunt, hollow cheeks
- Want fuller, lifted cheeks
- Want to avoid facial surgery
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Voluma formula contains lidocaine ( a mild local anesthetic) to minimize discomfort during treatments, so typically no additional anesthesia is needed. The Voluma will be skillfully injected into the mid-face to correct volume loss in about 10 minutes. Patients are able to leave the office and resume their normal activities immediately after their treatment, however they may notice mild swelling, redness, and tenderness for up to 2 days. Some results will be visible right away, but the filler will take about 7 days to settle into its final position. The results of Voluma typically last up to 2 years and can be maintained with touch-up injections.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Side effects with Voluma are rare, but possible so patients should contact our office if they have any concerns after their treatment. To avoid pushing the filler into unwanted areas of the face, patients should be careful not to touch the treated areas of their face for at least 24 hours after their treatment. The active ingredient in Voluma is a synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) that mimics the natural HA in the body that keeps the cells hydrated and elastic. The HA in Voluma is slowly and safely absorbed back into the body over time.
