Everything You Need To Know About Laser Hair Removal / Reduction

One of the most popular procedures provided by Renovation Med Spa is our laser hair removal service. Patients tired of spending so much time shaving and over the pain of waxing, bleaching, or plucking find a great solution with our laser hair removal/reduction

Our practitioners are here to guide you through the entire process. However, we would like to answer a few common questions we receive when scheduling patients for their first laser hair reduction consultation.

What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a modern medical process performed by our practitioners.  The most common language is termed “hair removal”, but in theory it truly is “hair reduction.” The procedure utilizes a concentrated beam of energy (where the word “laser” comes into play) that heats the hair follicles, making them inadequate for hair regrowth.

At Renovation Medical Spa, laser hair reduction treatments typically require multiple sessions due to the multiple phases of hair growth (Anagen, Catagen, Telegen, and Exogen).  Once optimal outcomes have been achieved, periotic maintenance treatments may be necessary, but vary from individual to individual.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

At Renovation Med Spa, laser hair removal costs between $80.00 – $4,320.00 for one treatment of a small area (upper lip) to a package of 8 treatments to include a larger area (leg).

Some patients may qualify for financing options. See more information about financing here.

How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Last?

Many patients report that are happy with their hair reduction for several years.  However, it is common to have some increased regrowth thereafter.  If that happens, we recommend a maintenance treatment as soon as the increase in hair growth is noticed.  The individual results of laser hair reduction vary based on the hair color, hair thickness, hormones, and the treatment area.

The long-term effects of laser hair removal/reduction make it one of our most popular treatments here at Renovation Medical Spa!

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

Most patients receiving laser hair removal treatments report some discomfort during the procedure. However, when comparing the procedure to other forms of hair removal, like waxing, the discomfort is far less.

The most common analogy provided by patients is the feeling of a warm rubber band snapping against your skin.

However, here at Renovation Medical Spa, Dr. Virden, MD and/or his Nurse Practitioners can prescribe a topical numbing cream that the patient can apply to the treatment area roughly an hour prior to the laser hair removal/reduction appointment.  Additionally, the patient will have an option to apply cool air to the area during the treatment.  With the use of topical numbing cream and cool air, most patients report very little discomfort.  Of course, individual differences apply.
