What Skin Conditions can BroadBand Light Therapy Can help?

Reduce Acne

BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy can be an effective treatment option for reducing acne. When used specifically for acne, the broad-spectrum light energy is absorbed by the targeted areas, which heats and destroys the acne-causing bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes. This helps to eliminate current acne breakouts and prevent future ones.

Reduce Redness

BroadBand Light therapy is a versatile treatment that can effectively reduce Rosacea, acne scarring, small vessels, and redness.

Reduce Brown Spots

BroadBand Light Therapy offers various filters that can be used to target brown spots and suppress melanin, the pigment responsible for dark spots. Often, the first sign of sun damage is freckles, most commonly caused by sun exposure. BBL has the power to remove freckles and reverse this sun damage.

What To Expect With BroadBand Light Therapy

BroadBand Light is a corrective treatment and therefore has some level of discomfort.  Many have described the sensation to feel like a very bright warm rubber-band snap.

During the consultation, topical numbing agents will be discussed.  Many patients chose to proceed without; however, there are over-the-counter and prescription options available.

During the actual treatment, special care will be given to protect your eyes.  We then apply ultrasound gel to enhance light absorption. The Sciton handpiece will then deliver energy, one snap at a time.

Afterwards, many experience varying degrees of redness and heat that subsides with a few hours.  Dark spots tend to become darker and flake off over the next two weeks.  During this time, it is essential to provide extra sun protection as the skin is susceptible to burning and unwanted pigmentation.  This non-invasive and non-ablative procedure requires virtually no downtime, allowing you to resume your regular activities, including applying makeup and returning to work immediately.

How We Use BroadBand Light Therapy To Reduce Acne

How We Use BroadBand Light Therapy To Reduce Acne??

How We Use BroadBand Light Therapy To Reduce Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that can affect people of varying age groups from pre-adolescent to adult. Acne BBL treatments are safe and recommended for all age groups wanting to target acne and help prevent long-term scarring. In fact, Acne BBL’s are often the preferred method for many of our patients over medications like Accutane which can cause severe side effects. Please note that parental consent is required to treat any minors under the age of 18.

Additionally, BBL therapy can reduce the production of sebum (skin oil) and minimize the appearance of enlarged pores, contributing to a much clearer complexion.

The number of BBL treatments required for acne reduction can vary depending on the severity and individual response to the therapy. A series of treatment sessions 1 to 2 times a week with a minimum of 6 treatments consecutively is recommended.  A maintenance treatment may be needed with the onset of new acne lesions, thereafter.

The number of passes and specific filters used during BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy for acne can vary based on individual skin conditions and treatment goals. A full acne treatment can encompass three separate filters, blue, yellow and red but the blue filter is the primary.

When the blue light is absorbed by the bacteria, it generates free radicals that damage and destroy the bacteria, reducing the overall bacterial load on the skin. By eliminating the bacteria, the blue filter helps to minimize current acne breakouts and prevent future ones.

Additionally, the blue light has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce the redness and inflammation associated with acne. It can also help regulate sebum (oil) production and minimize pore size.

Read more on the color filters below:

01

Blue Filter

The blue filter emits a specific wavelength of blue light (typically around 420-450nm) that is effective in destroying the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts, specifically Propionibacterium acnes.

02

Yellow Filter

The yellow filter is used for reducing redness, vascular lesions, and inflammation in the skin. It is often used to address conditions such as rosacea and facial flushing.

03

Red Filter

The red filter targets pigmented lesions, such as sunspots, freckles, and age spots.

How We Use BroadBand Light Therapy To Reduce Redness

BroadBand Light therapy is a versatile treatment that can effectively reduce Rosacea, acne scarring, small vessels, and redness. Using the yellow filter we can effectively treat these common concerns. It is important to note that the treatment will depend on the individuals’ skin condition and the size and location of the redness or small vessels. Depending on what you’re looking for, multiple treatments may be warranted. Most of our patients come back for maintenance treatments 1 to 2 times a year.

01

Rosacea

The Sciton system delivers controlled bursts of light energy that target discoloration, inflammation and small blood vessels associated with Rosacea. The treatment is permanent, but the condition is chronic so multiple treatments may be necessary.

02

Acne Scarring

The laser energy is delivered in a fractionated manner, creating micro-injuries in the skin that trigger the body's natural healing response. This process stimulates collagen production and promotes the remodeling of scar tissue, resulting in smoother skin texture and diminished acne scars over time.

03

Veins

Sciton's laser technology, specifically the Nd:YAG laser, can be utilized to target and treat unwanted small veins on the face or body. The laser energy is selectively absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood vessels, causing the veins to coagulate and gradually fade. The treatment is often well-tolerated and can effectively reduce the appearance of small spider veins/vessels or broken capillaries.

04

Redness

BBL therapy can selectively target the chromophores responsible for redness, such as hemoglobin or melanin. The treatment helps to even out the complexion and reduce unwanted redness, resulting in a more balanced and harmonious skin tone.

How We Use BroadBand Light Therapy To Reduce Brown Spots

BroadBand Light Therapy offers various filters that can be used to target brown spots and suppress melanin, the pigment responsible for dark spots. Often, the first sign of sun damage is freckles, most commonly caused by sun exposure.  BBL has the power to remove freckles and reverse this sun damage.

The number of filters, passes, and treatments needed is based on the individuals’ skin condition, the nature and amount of the brown spots, and the desired outcome

Best Candidate For BroadBand Light Therapy

We have found that those people who tend to sunburn rather than tan usually obtain good results on the first and subsequent visits. On the other hand, those who tan more easily tend to have more variation in their results. A consultation to determine the best regimen for you is recommended. If BBl is not the right treatment for you, alternatives may include HydaFacials and chemical peels, which are also customizable.
